This backyard setup combines a cozy lounge area, a stylish dining spot, and a rustic wood-fired chimney to create a welcoming space for friends and family. Overhead string lights cast a warm glow, while potted greenery brings life and color to the patio. A built-in grill sits nearby, so the host can stay connected with guests during cookouts.
Let the Fireplace Anchor the Lounge
A freestanding outdoor fireplace with a real chimney gives the lounge a visual anchor the way a TV or built-in fire pit would elsewhere. Arrange the metal lounge sofa and coffee table facing it, so the fireplace becomes the natural gathering point on cooler evenings.
Keep Dining Close but Visually Separate
A wooden pergola over the dining table gives that zone its own defined ceiling, distinct from the open-air lounge. Keep the grill positioned at the edge of the dining area so the host can serve straight from grill to table without crossing the whole yard.
Layer String Lights With Closer, Warmer Accents
String lights strung across the pergola and trees carry the eye across the whole space, while decorative lanterns add a closer, warmer glow right at seating level. Round it out with a soft outdoor rug under the lounge furniture to keep the whole zone feeling finished rather than just furniture on a bare patio.
Design Tips for Your Space
- Choose furniture in neutral: Choose furniture in neutral tones, then add color with pillows and planters
